I had a dream a few nights ago. It was a very intense dream. It was a terrifying dream. It shook me up and is still shaking me up.
Let me start by saying in general, I don’t put a lot of stock in dreams. And I have some doozies let me tell you. I realize that God can speak through dreams and I am not implying that He never does this, however I am slow to see them in that way. And in every case, I will hold them to the scriptures and judge them by sound doctrine. I would also say we must let the Holy Spirit give us discernment and be careful that we do not believe every spirit but test them all.
So, whether or not this dream came “from” God I cannot say. I can say, however, that God has used it to speak loudly to me about its subject.
Like most dreams, my memory of this dream has holes to say the least. But the end of it and the emotion of it are crystal clear. I won’t waste time trying to explain the details to you, but the scary end was as simple as this; The fear of going to hell and the desperate need for everyone to believe the Gospel.
It doesn’t matter whether you like it or not, Hell is real, and it is eternal. It is eternal punishment. It is horrible. It is the scariest truth that can be shared. But it is true. It is what the Bible says. It is what Jesus taught. It is true, and this truth SHOULD SCARE YOU! Hell is real and everyone who dies without Jesus is going there.
Here are some scriptures you need to read:
Revelation 20:10: “10The devil, who deceived them, was cast into the lake of fire and brimstone where the beast and the false prophet are. And they will be tormented day and night forever and ever. 11 Then I saw a great white throne and Him who sat on it, from whose face the earth and the heaven fled away. And there was found no place for them. 12 And I saw the dead, small and great, standing before God, and books were opened. And another book was opened, which is the Book of Life. And the dead were judged according to their works, by the things which were written in the books. 13 The sea gave up the dead who were in it, and Death and Hades delivered up the dead who were in them. And they were judged, each one according to his works. 14 Then Death and Hades were cast into the lake of fire. This is the second death. 15 And anyone not found written in the Book of Life was cast into the lake of fire.”
2Thessalonians 1:7b-9: “when the Lord Jesus is revealed from heaven with His mighty angels, 8 in flaming fire taking vengeance on those who do not know God, and on those who do not obey the gospel of our Lord Jesus Christ. 9 These shall be punished with everlasting destruction from the presence of the Lord and from the glory of His power,”
Matthew 25:41: “Then He will also say to those on the left hand, ‘Depart from Me, you cursed, into the everlasting fire prepared for the devil and his angels’”:
Hell is real, and the truth of scripture says it is eternal punishment. This is not good news, but this is the truth. Many today either, by their ignorance or abhorrence, have erased hell and its eternality from their minds and world-view. This has and is happening both in and outside the church. This is unbiblical, unloving and untrue. This is a lie from the enemy himself and is not helpful to anyone.
Removing the reality of an eternal hell removes the urgency for proclaiming The Gospel of Jesus Christ who is our only hope. This is a great tragedy. Furthermore, it opens wide the door for additional heresy such as ecumenism and universalism.
Please hear me now. God loves you and does not want you to go to hell and for that reason He sent Jesus to pay the penalty for YOUR sins on the cross of Calvary and rise from the dead 3 days later to conquer death and hell for you. He is ready to forgive you of all your sin if you will trust Him. If you will repent and believe. But know this that if you will not, He will judge you righteously according to your own works and you will be found guilty. And the payment for your sin and guilt will be eternal hell.
Christian, please hear this as well. Your neighbor needs to hear about Jesus. Your co-worker. Your Family. They need to know that hell is real, but Jesus paid it all. This is urgent. This is serious. Please tell them.
The reality of hell is not good news, but praise be to God, The Father, for the glorious truth of the gospel of His Son who defeated hell for all who will repent and believe.
